JAKA THE MECHANIC VOLUME ONE: THE VILLAGE’S MACHINE EXPERT
The story is set on the island of Java in an alternate 1920s, where the world is powered by advanced steampunk and dieselpunk technology.
Java at that time has been occupied by the Dutch. In a small village, there is a young man named Djaka, who possesses an extraordinary talent for building and fixing machines. He dreams of marrying Aishah, his childhood sweetheart, but she dislikes machines, leading Djaka to consider abandoning his passion.
Their lives take a dramatic turn when they receive devastating news: Aishah’s father, who works in the city, has been imprisoned for a terrible crime. Aishah is heartbroken, and Djaka vows to go to the big city and rescue her father. To do this, Djaka must rely on a stolen relic hidden in a cave by his long-dead parents, who once participated in a rebellion against the Dutch colonizers. The relic is a steam-powered automaton.
